Most businesses operating in the private sector primarily aim to make a proft, e.g. private health-care
clinics or private schools will charge customers more than public hospitals or public sector schools (which
provide many or all of their services free of charge due to government funding). Other aims of private
sector frms include to increase market share and to become the market leader. By contrast, businesses in
the public sector tend to provide a service to the general public whilst covering their operational costs.
